Rabies Treatment

Description:

Rabies is a disease that kills approximately 50,000 to 70,000 people annually and lacks treatment options. While it is preventable through post exposure prophylaxis the fatality rate is close to 100% in humans once clinical signs occur. Nicotinic acetylcholine receptors are receptors for the rabies virus to bind to cells. Researchers at UAF have found a way that could reverse the effects of the rabies virus and help treat this disease.
